Stopover 3: A week in Tasmania

Tasmania, Tasmania, Tasmania how I longed to love you............from your description you were perfect for me, the countryside, the buildings, the sea-food, the sailing, the wildlife and the craft markets but like a bad date built up by high expectation I am left disappointed.

Ok, maybe I haven't given you enough time, perhaps my exploration cut short has been our demise........perhaps my want to love you was simply not strong enough to see us through. Whatever the reason I am cutting our relationship short and I'm heading back to the city, strong words from a self confessed country girl, strong words indeed.

So I'm packing up 2 days early and heading back to Melbourne, I'm sticking my hand in my own pocket and paying for my flight early, sometimes we just have to accept that we can't always get SAM 4104SAM 4122on with everyplace we visit.

Now, lets be clear, Hobart is a beautiful little city and I feel blessed to have experienced the  fabulous Salamanca area in the   sunshine.

I have strolled the famous harbour, taken in the vast array of sailing  yachts and eaten in the marvelous 'Top Deck' at 'Mures'

I have meandered through St Davids Park, sauntered through   the marina  and taken in the nautical history from England to Tasmania whilst taking tim e out to sit at the bay reading my books, all this and I have put in 8 hours a day at the office.

Tasmania our relationship has been perhaps a little one-sided, I appreciate you have much more to offer than my feeble exploration has uncovered. There is:

  • The Historical Port Arthur
  • Mt Wellington
  • Russell Falls
  • The Huon Valley
  • and of course the marvelous Bruny Island tours

Perhaps the issue has been work pressures, lack of new company, missing loved ones or let's be honest I am of the female variety, hormones! Who knows.....but something was lacking, the sparkle that excites me and pushes me to want more just  never reared it's head, perhaps I was hasty to cut short my visit, perhaps it will be one of my regrets! I guess I'll never know......there is still time and I intend to make the most of what I have left.

It is now Friday afternoon, before I fly out tomorrow I will visit the cricket grounds and the world renowned Salamanca Market, we have 24 hours to turn this around................right now the office is gearing up for the weekend, the beers and tacos are out and the plan is to head out for more beers in the sun, who knows maybe a herbal delight (when in Rome), what's to say that by tomorrow I won't love you Tasmania, without the pressures of work, a luxury hotel and my time to myself who says it can't change..........24 hours it is before my final conclusion, 24 hours to enjoy this island, 24 hours starting from now x

WELL, WELL, WELL Tasmania.........
